Privacy Policy

Tool Share (“Tool Share,” “we,” “our,” or “us”), operated by Sehestedt Holdings LLC, values your privacy. This Privacy Policy (“Policy”) describes how we collect, use, disclose, and protect your personal information when you use the Tool Share mobile application and any related products and services (collectively, the “Services”). By creating an account or using the Services you acknowledge that you have read and agreed to this Policy.

Information we collect automatically

When you use the Services, our servers and third-party infrastructure providers automatically record certain information that your device sends, including IP address, device model, operating system version, language preferences, access times, and crash diagnostics. We use this information to operate and secure the Services, prevent fraud, and understand aggregate usage patterns. It is not used to identify you individually except when investigating potential abuse.

Information you provide

To rent a tool or list one for rent, you must create an account. During onboarding and while using the Services you may provide:

Contact information: first and last name, email address, phone number, and the city and state where you live.
Identity verification: an optional government-issued photo ID used solely to verify that renters and owners are the people they claim to be. Tool Share stores the ID encrypted; we never share it with other users.
Listings: tool names, descriptions, brand, condition, rental rate, deposit amount, pickup location, and photos of tools you list for rent.
Pickup location: the approximate street-level latitude and longitude of where a tool will be picked up or delivered. This is used to show a pickup map to the renter and to calculate delivery fees.
Transaction history: rental requests, acceptances, cancellations, messages between renters and owners, security deposit records, refund and payout history, and inspection notes.
Payment information: processed by Stripe. Tool Share never stores full card numbers on its servers. We store only a Stripe customer reference, the last four digits of your card, and your payment preferences.
Device tokens: push notification tokens issued by Apple (APNs) or Google (FCM) used to deliver transactional alerts.

How we use your information

We process your information to:

create and maintain your Tool Share account;
match renters with available tools and facilitate rental requests;
process payments, security deposit authorizations, payouts to tool owners, refunds, and damage settlements via Stripe and Stripe Connect;
send transactional email (OTP codes, password resets, rental updates) and push notifications;
verify your identity for community safety;
prevent fraud, enforce this Policy and our Terms of Service, and comply with legal obligations;
respond to support inquiries and feedback; and
operate, secure, improve, and maintain the Services.

We do not sell your personal information to advertisers, and we do not serve third-party advertising inside the Tool Share app.

Payments and Stripe Connect

Tool Share uses Stripe and Stripe Connect to authorize, capture, refund, and pay out funds. Payment data (card details, bank account information, Connect onboarding identity data) is collected, transmitted, and stored by Stripe under their privacy policy at https://stripe.com/privacy. Tool Share receives only limited metadata from Stripe such as the payment intent status, transfer results, and Connect onboarding completion flags.

How we share information

We only share the information we need to run the Services:

Between renters and owners — limited profile information (first name, city, verification status, profile photo, ratings and reviews) to facilitate a rental.
Stripe, Inc. — payment processing, deposit capture and release, marketplace payouts to tool owners.
Resend, Inc. — transactional email delivery for OTP codes, password resets, and rental notifications.
Convex, Inc. — backend, database, and file storage hosting.
Expo Push Service — routes push notifications to Apple and Google.
Firebase Cloud Messaging (Google) and Apple Push Notification service — final delivery of notifications to your device.
Our legal and safety partners — only when required by subpoena, court order, or when we reasonably believe disclosure is necessary to prevent harm or respond to fraud.
In a business transition — if Tool Share is merged, acquired, or sells its assets, your account and information may transfer as part of that transaction.

Tool Share does not share personal information with unaffiliated third parties for their own marketing purposes.

Retention of information

We retain your personal information only for as long as needed to provide the Services, comply with legal and financial obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. You can request permanent deletion of your account at any time from Settings → Delete Account, which removes your profile, tool listings, messages, and notifications. We retain transaction records, payout history, and dispute outcomes for as long as required by tax, accounting, and consumer-protection law, even after account deletion.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information, withdraw consent, or object to certain processing. You can exercise many of these rights directly in the Tool Share app (Settings → edit profile, notification preferences, or delete account). For anything else, contact us at mytool.share@gmail.com and we will respond within 30 days.

California residents

California residents have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), including the right to know what personal information we have collected about you, to request deletion, to correct inaccurate information, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. Tool Share does not sell personal information. To exercise your rights, email mytool.share@gmail.com from the email associated with your account.

Children

Tool Share is intended for users 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has created an account, contact us and we will remove it.

Data security

We use industry-standard encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and at rest for all personal information, including tool photos and government-issued ID images. Our infrastructure providers maintain SOC 2 and comparable certifications. No transmission over the internet can be guaranteed completely secure; we encourage you to use a strong, unique password and enable device-level security features.

Data breach notification

If we become aware of a security incident that compromises your personal information, we will notify affected users by email and in the app as required by applicable law, and we will cooperate with law enforcement and regulators as appropriate.

Links to other services

The Tool Share app contains links to third-party services (Stripe onboarding, Apple App Store, Google Play Store, and external support resources). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those services — please review their policies separately.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. When we do, we will post the updated Policy in the app and on mytoolshare.com and update the “Last updated” date. If changes are material, we will notify you through the app or by email before the changes take effect.
